Pershore Patty meets Steve Rimmer, head chef at The Mount Pleasant to ask a few personal questions and for a general nose.
Tell me a little bit about how you came to own or work in your business:
I am a Malvern lad. My family lives here, so I have been working in Malvern as a Head Chef since 2008. When I saw this job come up at the Mount Pleasant through a friend who recommended it, I felt like I needed a new challenge and wanted to help make this business grow.
What achievements, awards or accolades are you proud of?
Several to be honest – gaining a rosette, over the years to seeing our rating go up on TripAdvisor, and I suppose an old one was being in the Egon Ronay top 200 restaurants in the UK in 2005.

Which person in your life do you most admire and why?
Gordon Ramsay. I’ve always bought his books and have been to his flagship restaurant.
What was the last gift you gave someone?
Flowers for the wife not so long ago, or a toy for my son.
What’s your favourite smell in the whole world?

Who would you want to cook your last meal on earth, and why?
Gordon Ramsey; amazing food! I ate in one of his restaurants many years ago.
What is the most annoying habit that other people have?
Time keeping and responding in this day and age. We have so much social media etc that a simple response via text would be great.
If you could eat only 3 foods for the rest of your life, what would they be?
Bacon, goat’s cheese and bread.
What’s your claim to fame?
My hands were on tv once.
Which food & drink business (other than your own) do you wish you had created?
Subway – I love a good sandwich.
What is the best piece of advice you’ve ever received?
When I was working in a 4 rosette restaurant, the executive chef gave me some good advice on seasoning, and I use that advise to this day when explaining to the trainees and commis chefs .
If you could be anywhere else right now, where would it be?
Liverpool watching a game.
What’s the best thing that happened to you last week?
Placed my new lawn down.
Name a product or service you love so much that you’d happily be that company’s spokesperson.
As a child, what did you wish to become when you grew up?
Painter and decorator like my dad.
What is the perfect combination of pizza toppings?
Tandoori chicken, onion, chilli, spinach, garlic & cheese.
What was the worst job you ever held and why?
Parking cars only for 3 days. One day it rained and one day I got sun burnt.

What is the most impressive thing you know how to do?
Chocolate writing, its neater than my normal writing.
What do you hope never changes?
The Mount Pleasant is a family run hotel on Belle Vue Terrace in Greater Malvern, offering 17 rooms and a quality restaurant. There are a range of dishes on offer plus specials and a children’s menu and a Sunday carvery. The refurbished restaurant has 50 covers and there is a smaller dining room which seats up to 24 and is ideal for private parties. The hotel is also a venue for weddings.
